Thanks for your input everyone. I think I am gonna order an 11.5 modified trap that's the buffalo model. Due to it being a smaller glove I think I can get away with it being a little softer, on a bigger glove I could see how it might be tougher to get away with. I will see how it holds up and then go from there. Now if I can just sell some of these extra gloves laying around

be warned - the buffalos are sort of mushy... that is why they went to half buffalo half walnut. I would look into the bloodline Nokonas http://www.ballgloves.com/cgi-local/p.pl?AMG1150BLMT

here is the combo, again I would get this over the all buffalo one:

hmmm I wonder why they didn't do the combo the opposite? With the buffalo in the palm since it is softer and the exterior of the stiffer material? I actually have a Horween PRO 1000H i'm trying to get a glove that is the opposite, not stiff. I got a deal on a buffalo one, so I will have to check in and let you guys know how it is. If it ends up being way too soft/floppy I guess i'll swap for the combo.

Well my baseball days are done. I played at a junior college, shattered my thumb .Then I started my own company, so I no longer am in college. So i've just been playing competitive softball. I travel around playing softball, so this is gonna be my gamer glove for 2b, I'm still working on breaking in the PRO 1000H I have , but I know that'll be a while. Supposed to go play saturday for the state championship tournament for a type of softball called U Trip (different pitching rules and a few other changes from normal slow pitch).

My son and just came back from a trip to a local mom and pop shop that carries Nokonas, and they just received a whole bunch of Bloodlines and Kimeras. They hadn't even put them out yet, they were all laying in a shopping cart.

The Bloodlines did not seem heavy to me, but then again I was drooling over them so I wasn't paying too much attention to the weight. They are more maroon in color than burgundy, and the leather felt very thick, thicker than their other gloves. They are using tan laces which don't look bad, but I would love to see laces in a matching color. The 11.5", 11.75" and the 12" models had big, rounded pockets, with the 12" feeling like a Pro1000 to me. The 12.75 trap model had a kangaroo back, probably for weight savings. On the pinkie they have embroidered " Made In Nocona Texas, USA". Beautiful gloves, that felt great. If they come out with a Mod Trap 12.75, I am in trouble.

They Kimeras also felt great. They are lighter than the Bloodlines, and won't need much to get them game ready. The Horween leather looks and feels different than the HOH's. Difficult to describe, almost like a "sandy" look.

MVALZ, beautiful glove! I share your opinion of the AMG500, wish they would bring them back.

Here is my AMG500K. My son started using it for softball a few years ago, but I made him give it back to me when I heard Nokona stopped making it. He wasn't too hurt when he got his buffalo to replace it.

That sure is a beautiful glove! I have an AMG650CW,and I absolutely love it. As for the new Nokona's, if they come out with one in 13" with a Trap or Modified Trap, I too will be in big trouble, because I'll absolutely have to own one. I need the 13", because I have very large hands, the 12.75" just won't do it for me.

Hey Buffalo Glover, beautiful glove.

On another note, I'm so jealous. I want to see one of those Kimeras so bad.
Alas, my glove is better than my game.

Funny, I went looking for the Bloodline and Kimera series today too. No luck. Saw some pics in the Nok catalog and the patterns look the same...nothing new and exciting. Tried on a few Buffalos...too soft. I need a firmer glove for the infield. Love the feel for the Kangaroo models too, but had my worst games ever while using one. Ball seemed to go right thru the thumb and pinky while handling some hot shots at third. Happier at SS with my HOH :!:

I have a Buckaroo 11.75 H web Nokona I bought about 6 years ago. The thumb was kind of weak - I read somewhere that you could send it back to Nokona to have a plastic insert installed. So I sent the glove in and they put it in for free including new laces. I broke it in and gave it to my son who used it for a season of little league when he was 10 or 11 - now my daughter ( she is 10 yrs old) has claimed it hers for those rare days when she plays catch with us. Nice glove but too flimsy to use for competitive hardball. The plastic insert helped a little bit but the Kangaroo is just too thin to offer support.

Ahhh Nokona's...

Postby Turning643s » August 23rd, 2008, 5:51 pm

I live in North Texas, about an hour away from the town of Nocona. The town spells their name with a "C" and the glove company with a "K." Little history for those who don't know. They started out making cowboy boots and anyone who wears them will tell you they're great boots. The boot company went out of business but the ballglove company is still going strong. They did have the fire that burnt down the factory, but they took over the old boot factory and warehouse off of Highway 82. The factory is right off the highway right before you get in town. I've been up there to the outlet shop just to see all the gloves and smell all the wonderfull leather. I'm going back soon to take the tour of the factory. They run tours Monday thru Friday from 9 am to 11am and from 1pm to 3pm. I will say that if you buy a Nokona glove, I think you have to go with the classic walnut finish. The classic walnut finish IS Nokona. It's the best looking finish on a glove period, in my opinion. Nokona's do cost a good bit, but they are worth every penny and some. They'll last a lifetime if you take care of them. Use'em a lot and keep'em clean with their glove jelly, which is just good old fashioned petrolleum jelly, but man does it work and keep them looking and playing great. If you don't have a Nokona glove in your equipment bag and you have an extra $200 to spend on a glove, don't waste any time, snag a Nokona, break it in and enjoy it for years. They do not dissapoint!

Or in my case two.

I love the AMG1150MT and really wanted the Walnut. It's tough to find places to ship them here so I have to do most of my glove buys on eBay. I haven't seen too many of the modified traps on eBay new but a Buckaroo showed up last week and I did an impules buy it now for $149. Maybe could have gotten it a bit cheaper but I had to have one.

As fate would have it a new Walnut showed up on eBay yesterday. I showed the wife and she said to get it. Got a good price with best offer so now I have two coming. Works for me because my son has wanted a Walnut and now I can have the Buckaroo.

Now I might as well just get the Sandstone and the Buffalo and have them all.

close on the history

Postby softball66 » August 23rd, 2008, 6:53 pm

Next time you're over to Nocona and Nokona, check on their history again.
I've worked for the company for 32 years as a consultant and have had a hand in some of their histories.
Fact is, a few workers for the Nocona Boot Company there left and started Nocona Leather Goods and made women's purses and men's billfolds, this about 1926. Company didn't fare to well and the bank took it over in the 1930s when son in law of one of the bankers, Robert Storey took it over and found same problems, and until "Doc" H. B. Hughes, a sporting goods rep from Dallas, made contact with Nocona and ushered them into the sporting goods business, making football and baseball equipment. The company under Storey and with some guidance from Doc. became very successful. Robert's grandson Rob, currently directs operations there with help from his dad, Robert E., chairman.
I've used Nokonas since 1956. The people there are among the finest folks in the world, right down to everyone I've met there.
The Nocona Boot Company split up years ago with the original founder's two sons, Justin Brothers, going to Fort Worth to start Justin Boots. Enid Justin, the founder's daughter, stayed in Nocona to run the boot company. She died a few years ago and the Justin Company bought the plant, ran it a few years and closed it over five years ago.
When the fire wiped out the Nocona Athletic Goods Co., year or so ago, they restored the operation to the old boot company located on the main highway.
I may still have some pics of this.
If you wanna buy American and want a glove, this is the place.
