My collections beyond gloves, are 50s and 60s era baseball cards, original Nintendo games, Aircraft modeling, and my current addiction: Random House "Modern Library" books from the 30s to the 70s. I had several other collections I was pursuing but I put them on hold when I went back to college and now i've lost interest in them.
My wife isn't a collector and she and I butt heads about the value (monetary and psychological) of collecting things. Thankfully, she's been married to me for 26 years and is coming around (she started making jewelry and the cost of beads far exceeds my glove and book purchases. So we made a deal - she can buy as many bead supplies as she wants as long as I get to match her dollar for dollar. I have a surplus of over $300.00  ).

LOL. Funny JD.
As for me, like all of you I started out with cards before gloves. Now, I'm into trophies, uniforms, and bats as well.

But non sports stuff, I do collect the new quarters and all the vintage Nintendo and atari games that I had awhile back. Gosh! I remember playing my dad on Atari baseball. What was up with the 3 pitchers thing on that game? (if anyone remembers)

But as a kid, I collected rocks and labeled them with their scientific name. I know I'm a nerd! HAHA!

Thanks for the fun post! :D

Hi Guys, Great thread on collecting stuff! I used to collect old time baseball cards, then it seemed like the market got flooded and the card companies made tons of new cards and took the fun out of it for me. Sold most all my old time cards (except a 1953 bowman color card of Stan Musial). I also went through U.S. Stamp collecting.

I enjoy collecting, learning about the collectables and enjoy meeting people in the hobby. Like the old gloves and the nice folks like you.

I use to collect cards and Matchbox cars. And I still collect matchbooks and have been for 30 yrs. Now it's gloves, catchers equipment and trophies ( something Ricky got me started on).

JD, you know I have 3 kids and I must admit that I still have beanie babies boxed up in the basement somewhere. Oh, I almost forgot those Webkinz..

Okay Here goes, vintage gloves, bats, old sports books and mags, Nascar diecast and cards, old toy Greyhound buses , old toy Ford Mustang and VW cars, Harley Davidson items, old Auburn rubber cars and trucks, anything related to the old 1970's Happy Days Tv show, , old soda bottles, old oil cans, Oscar Mayer items and just starting to collect rock albums from the 60's and 70's. After 30 years of collecting my wife says this madness must end , its her own fault she lets me out of the house with the checkbook.

My collections

Postby Cowboy7130 » August 14th, 2008, 11:19 pm

Besides gloves -

I collect baseball caps (latest favorite is the new, old-school Cleveland New Era 5950), vintage and not-so-vintage pocket knives (especially Schrade Old-Timers), and Cross pens and pencils. I buy and never sell (is that a definition of collecting? :? ) books: vintage books, hardbacks or paperbacks, novels, biographies and autobiographies, best-sellers ... you name it, if I think it looks interesting to read I will buy it, whether at the used book stores in town or Hastings, or Books-A-Million, or Amazon.com. I have several tin boxes, too (old-style food boxes, mainly, like Oreo, Maxwell House 1881 coffee, etc.), although I don't think of myself as collecting them. When I go to the grocery store, if I see a nice tin box of some type of food I like, I am always tempted to buy it.
Yes, I still have my first glove.

what we collect

Postby Bravosin99 » August 15th, 2008, 10:46 am

Baseball-
Other then gloves we collect early photos, uniforms, bats, autographed balls, batting practice/homerun balls from spring training and games, misc. equipment, and not so much lately but Greg Maddux memoribilia.

Outside of baseball I collect shot glasses from each city or state I vacation to...I also like collecting guitar picks from concerts I have attended or of my favorite bands...I also keep all my ticket stubs to any concert or sporting events that I attend.

Dad has a huge collection of baseball hats lol...I think he could probably wear a different one each day of the year  ...

My glove collecting interests have narrowed over the past year. I focus on lht Rawling 1b mitts especially PRO-DCT and Wilson catchers mitts.

With my two sons--we have a small collection of Datsun 510's including the latest which is sitting in the garage. This car has been stored since 1975 and is absolutely perfiect. Plan to put the early Trans-am factory engine, tranny, differential in soon. We use them mainly for autocross and cruising around. a really great car!

I also have a collection in my office of 1:18 diecast red 2door sports coupes and LaMans race cars. I inherited and added to my dad's collection of bone and antler handled pocket knives (mainly Michigan trapper models).
Love them A's

Wow...After viewing what other things we are all into. May I suggest a buddy of mines website for some music streaming a lot of you might enjoy. The site is www.richbroradio.com Also I don't how I forgot this when I mentioned what else I collect. Rare Beatle records. My career in radio has allowed me access to cool folks and items through the years and I contribute to a local Beatles weekend radio show.
