Hmm. A hint would be nice, Eric. Lots of photo's of Koufax using both Rawlings and Spalding. I found one that eliminates the guesswork. Ford endorsed Spalding and he's usually using one in the photo's I find. The web on that one makes me think MacGregor, but idk for sure. When in doubt, do what I do; look through JD's glove gallery and library.

I'm honestly surprised by how many 1930's players used different model Goldsmith gloves. Here's another Valdes Modelo user, Hal Turpin of the Pacific Coast League. Also Buddy Lewis and Don Ross with Goldsmith triple tunnels. It changed from year to year, but the Lew Riggs model was top of the line in 1936.

Johnny Allen had some really good seasons pitching for the Yankees and the Indians. He had an outstanding 142-75 won/loss record over his 13 year career. I don't know if he ever had an endorsed glove. None show up in JD's glove gallery. Here he is on the cover of a 1937 Baseball magazine. The photo it used shows him with a Rainey trap web which was used by quite a few pro's back then.

I actually found these photo's of Joe DiMaggio holding a Johnny Allen stamped glove first. It looks like it could be a Rainey web as well. The Yankees traded Johnny after the 1935 season, so he and Joe were never teammates. Maybe he left it in his old locker at Yankee Stadium? Just one of those weird little mysteries.

Found one more from that day. Definitely a Rainey web but I can't make out the stampings. I think cocktail hour may have started early that day for Joe and the gang.

Great photos Greg. I especially like the Koufax and DiMaggio. The Spalding Bolling glove was used by quite a few MLB players. Eric, the Whitey Ford MacGregor glove was based on the Willie Mays G101 model from circa 1958. The unusual thing is The Ford glove has a solid web whereas the Mays glove has a two piece web. No solid web versions were in the retail catalogs.

A Mays G101 has been on my wish list for awhile now. What a great looking glove. Hope you post some more photo's Eric. I'm starting to run out of them
A few more of the popular Rainey web.

Love the Koufax and Dimaggio photos…great stuff…the Koufax can’t get any better as far as a glove photo!!

The Ford glove is a bit of a mystery, if someone swapped the web they did an amazing job…or the factory specifically made it and not cataloged…pretty interesting.

I’m running out of photos also Greg…need to go way back in my saved photos and many of the players I don’t even remember for sure who it is unfortunately lol.

Here’s one though…I think this is Sisler if I remember correctly…he’s got 2 mitts in his hand

Cool photo Eric. I'll bet quite a few players used a Rawlings Sisler mitt. The 1950s and 60s photo's give you a better chance of an up close view of the gloves. The Rawlings, Wilson, MacGregor, etc, advisory staff photo's are good bets, too. Here's Bill Mazeroski with one of those big, unique MacGregor webs and a look at some of the other gloves he used; a Spider-web model, a Rawlings Herb Score Personal, and a Wilson A2000.

The close-up of the Mazeroski A2000 glove is cool! He seemed to favor closed web models.
Here's Whitey Ford with a pre A2000 Wilson glove circa 1957. He also preferred the closed web.

Ford used a lot of different gloves in his career. Besides the MacGregor, Sonnett, and Wilson here are a few others.

Great photo's Mike. I lucked out finding a high resolution photo of that A2000. Wish they were all like that.
Cool photo of the Babe with that Spalding mitt. There's a close up of it that Mike posted years ago. Gehringer used a variety of different gloves as well. Wish the photo below was higher resolution. It could be Spalding, Wilson, Goldsmith...
I got to try on Brooks Robinson's glove when I was 17 in the summer of 1971. I worked at Milwaukee County Stadium and stuck around to help the grounds crew roll the tarp out for a rain delay. It poured and we all ran to the visitor's dugout. The Orioles had left their gloves on the dugout benches and someone spotted one with B Robinson in marker on the wrist strap. I remember thinking that it was the biggest and coolest glove I'd ever seen.

In reply to mikesglove post (June 5) regarding the photo of Whitey Ford with a Macgregor G101 here are photos of a purported Willie Mays G101 gamer from the 2014 Heritage auctions catalog. It features the one piece web and sold for $15535.00.
