Joe Jackson on Ebay

Postby murphusa » January 1st, 2010, 3:25 pm

The Joe Jackson glove that has been on ebay this week just had a bidder retract his $770.00 high bid after it was up for 2 days. He said he entered the wrong amount. Guess the 2nd bidder, now at $380.00 had his hand shown.

Think anyone will jump in and bid it back up to where it was? All I know is that it won't be me. Also wonder if the bidders know that it's a 1940s model? I'll be watching with interest just to see how it ends!

This happened to me once - I had a high bid, someone came close to my bid, retracted it. I was worried that the seller would schill me but I ended up getting it pretty cheap. This is one thing I don't like about eBay - you have to go through two screens to bid so the "I typed in the wrong amount" is lame.

Funny, I'd been warned not to post or to discuss current ebay "best sellers" on the forum? Is this ok?

Joe, I don't think we've ever said not to post current auctions - at least, I know I haven't. If the glove is clearly listed in the glove categories, I don't see what the issue would be. Discuss away.

the odds of someone keeping a listing all to themselves is just plain dumb.

Since I have been here, I have told others about stuff on ebay and also discussed with others certain listings that I knew that they collected and let them know that I would be bidding on an item

Everything is fair game

That was one strange auction. On the one hand the high bidder had to have been ticked off that he was left hanging like that after the other bidder retracted. On the other hand he did end up getting it for $160 less than it was a few days ago. Weird.

I sure wish I saw this one. I don't see half the gloves you guys do. What was the condition? If it was decent, I would have paid way more than $610 for it. People ask me for Nokona Jacksons all the time. Man I wish I saw it. Hope to see it in the Glove of the Month section. Thanks.

Thanks Joel. Jim M. just sent it to me too. That is truly a decent glove and tops on the list of any Nokona collector. Good win for someone.

I'll definitely post that one for the VGOTM in about the middle of the month along with a couple others hopefully. If any other good ones show up, I'll post those at the end of Jan. How much would a decent 1920s Joe Jackson fetch if there was one out there?

Thanks Greg. If a legitimate 20's Joe Jackson ever showed up it would be priceless - many thousands in my opinion.

Without the movie "Field of Dreams" do you think Jackson's stuff would be as highly priced as it is?
