Interesting topic. I remember reading something in the 60's about Paul Richards telling one of his pitchers, Wade Blasingame, not to use an open web glove. Found the article on line.

Bob Gibson used a Spalding with an H web during the 1967 World Series against the Red Sox. It was on display in the Hall of Fame. Interstingly enough, it was a Carl Yasztremski model. Gibby also used what appeared to be a Rawlings XPG6 with the two-piece web in the early 70's.
The XPG6 Mantle model with the two piece web was very popular with amateur players in the 60's but didn't get a lot of use with the pros. It appears now that about half the pitchers favor that style web. Wonder what caused the fad to change?
