Mordecai Brown gloves?

Postby Musashi » June 4th, 2008, 2:03 am

Does anyone know what glove(s) Brown used during the 1907-08 Cubs years? Of course, based on the era, I think I have a pretty good idea on what type of glove he would've used, but I've never read anything that actually identified what brand (though I'd guess some sort of Spaulding) or the model.

I've seen some pictures of him, but none of them ever seem to offer any detail on his glove. Plus, he lived to be 71 - did Brown ever endorse any gloves during his lifetime?

Q. "How many fingers did Three-finger Mordecai Brown have?"

A. Eight, just three on his throwing hand.

Most people get this wrong.....

Actually, counting the thumbs, he had a total of nine and a third. He was only missing two bones in his right index finger. His middle finger was intact but severely mangled. One of the great misnomers.

I will concede that "Three Finger Brown" is a superior nickname than "Four and a third Finger Brown".
