Vintage vs. Modern Threads

Anything related to gloves (pre-1970) you can post here.

I don't think anyone is bent out of shape so don't worry about that. My vote would still be for Pre/Post War categorization for two reasons. First reason is simply that when the collecting of vintage gloves became a bit more organized, it was Pre-War material that was initially sought out. Second reason is a stylistic one, which is not the argument that I wanted to use. There is really no fundamental difference between a glove made in 1970 and one made in 2000. That can't be said when comparing a 1970 glove to a 1940 model. The span is only thirty years in either direction but the technology and use are worlds apart. Laces vs. no laces, flat vs. ergonomically formed, etc. etc. Not to mention the fact that the Pre-War era was almost entirely Made in the USA vs. an increasing number of imports.

I think I'm up to 4 cents now. :D

i would agree once again with 9, and add that there is even a considerable difference from a 1958 a2000 and a pre-1958 anything else. But, for the sake of peace and harmony, i will comply with the CEO of the glove forum

I like the pre wwll and post. That way it could be used forever, and never a mix up.

This is the only forum I've seen where decency and manners rule. So I suppose in 20 years the same thing will happen. Everyone will weigh in with an opinion and a consensus will emerge. 8)

I am enjoying this discussion but I still haven't been persuaded to change the dating. Maybe it's because of my age, maybe it's my collecting taste, I'm not sure. The end of the 1960's and early 70's saw a decrease in the amount of player endorsed gloves and a shift to just model #'s. I guess that is why I'm pulling the 1970 year out of my head. And I guess because I consider my Sonnett gloves vintage and they stopped making them at the end of the 60's. :)

And if we're still doing this in 20 years, we can have a new debate to decide how to classify them.
