Don Morton Sports Selling Rawlings made with Horween Leather

Postby jackdaddy » May 10th, 2008, 8:14 am

I was on the Don Morton Sports Web site (BallGloves.com) and noticed under their "Rawlings Exclusives" label they carry some of the old classic styles, i.e., Pro-1000HC. I emailed them and asked if they were made with Horween leather (like my 20-year old glove that I just love). They replied back that yes they were made from the dry Horween leather--stiff just like the old ones. They stated that Rawlings has been making them for Don Morton Sports for 5 years now. They are made in the Phillipines and not the USA

Do you think it really is the Horween leather that they use and do they have an exclusive deal with Rawlings?

I hope someone chimes in on this. I am really debating on buying the PRO 1000HC from them that is the horween leather. I know obviously it's not a collectors item like the USA gloves but I am looking to buy one that will be my gamer for when I play so I just want to know if the leather is the same as the USA HOH leather, and that it will hold up better than my oil treated HOH's

I have two of those recent Morton Rawlings Philippines-made HOH gloves, can I look at these and tell by looking if they're Horween, so I could help out with your question?

Does Horween look or smell different? I don't have a "trained eye, or nose" and probably don't know if it's Horween or not. My old Pro-1000H (code KEA01) is USA made and about 20 years old and is made of Horween and I just love it, but it's about time to retire it. I may order the Morton Pro-1000HC if I know it's made of Horween.

Here is the Web link to the glove. It says they are made of Horween:

I bought a PRO12TC from Morton's last year, and it's the best new glove I ever owned. It's still not completley broken in. I think it's much better than ox-blood HOH's i've seen in the local stores.

I also bought the PRO12TC from Mortons about 1.5 years ago, still working that in. The PROTB24 tan from them about five years ago is game-ready. HOH takes longer to break in, but lasts forever.
