Dazzy Vance Ken Wel 560 Pro Model

Postby GoTigers » April 13th, 2008, 9:53 am

Hello Everyone, This is my first post here. I usually collect game used bats, but recently ran into this glove at a local antique market, and am thinking about picking it up. I know very little about gloves, and was wondering what this glove is worth. Its about 9" x 9".... Hopefully these links work

Very desirable glove!

Not only do Ken-Wel gloves have a dedicated following among vintage glove collectors, as do gloves with Hall-of-Fame player endorsements, but the 560 model has a special niche in the evolution of baseball glove design.

The 560 introduced a new-fangled idea that was revolutionary for the times, and didn't really catch on for another few decades- laced together fingers!

So iconic is the design that a modern glove company- Akadema- has reissued this glove as one of their "Hoboken Collection" line of vintage reproductions. You can see it, and their other offerings, here: Akadema Hoboken Collection Gloves

Another plus is the apparently great condition of the glove, despite the "pulled threads" from the Ken-Wel logo on the label. The overall condition of the glove looks excellent.

Without having a chance to evaluate the glove in-person, and if the interior lining is in a nice shape as the outer leather, I could see this glove easily selling for up to $400, and certainly no less than $250.

Man, I never find anything like this in antique stores around here. For an antique store find, that's a doozy. Or, maybe I should say...a Dazzy!

Definitely pick it up if you have the chance - Vance gloves are pretty common but everyone loves them. This one looks to be in very good condition - go for it!

Use the search feature (at the top of the page), enter "Vance" and I'm sure a number of these will come up under the "Glove of the Week" thread. This will give you a sense for what they have sold for in the past on eBay.

I agree with the guys on the forum, very desirable design and manufacture. More so if it has the v-notch buckle back (I didn't see a pic of the full back). I'd say at a min it is $250, and upwards of $375.

Thanks for the info guys... I wasn't expecting to find such a valuable glove, I was really just wondering if it was worth picking up! I've got some old Baseball mags, and tickets, and thought a nice old glove would add to the collection. I've told the store I'll be by to pick it up on Friday, so I'll try to post more pictures after I get it. The pictures I had before were off the store website.

Well, like I said before I'm a bat guy... so I'll probably put this one up on ebay after I get it, so I can pick up a bat I've had my eye on. After all, it looks like this glove will mean a lot more to a hard-core collector, than to someone who stumbled upon it. I'll be sure to post the item number on here so you can check it out, and bid if you like. Again, thanks for you help, and the information you provided!

I picked up the glove today... it's pretty impressive, and in good shape, here are the pictures...I just put it up on Ebay, with a "Buy it Now" or "Best Offer" style auction. Ebay item number 320241633119 ... I put the Buy It Now price, pretty high, and am planning on just taking the best offer.. I was hesitant to run an auction because I felt my description may not be sufficient.
Also, I didn't sell it on this website because I am new and don't have a reputation yet. Again, I appreciate all your help
