Something I thought was interesting...

This morning I attended the Papermania Collectables show in Hartford, CT. It was a pretty interesting show with a lot of neat items. I went mainly looking for glove catalogs and didn't have too much luck. I did find one to purchase - it was a wholesale dealer from Chicago around 1910 - great pictures in it.

One of the things I saw looking through another catalog got me thinking. I was a perusing an Elmira Sporting Goods catalog from sometime in the early 1930's. They had a bunch of Reach gloves listed but something about the bats really made me go "hmmmm." They were advertising JF Hillerich bats, which hadn't been made in over 15 years! It wasn't a typo either because they had pictures to go with it. This made me wonder how long stores and sporting good distributors would keep older stock and try to sell it. In this day and age, you would never find this. My dad told me that in the 1950's, the hardware store in town still had split finger gloves that no one was buying. Does anyone else have any thoughts, experience with this?
