Japanese Glove Brand: Pine Matsukan?

Postby glovemedic » January 3rd, 2008, 10:53 pm

Anyone familiar with Pine gloves? They are Japanese. I have an awesome catchers mitt bought new for me in 1964. I'll post a picture later. Also have acquired a 1st base mitt and fielders glove in th elast couple of years. Any information appreciated. I have not come up with anything despite some rather extensive research.

Have fun and play hard!

The only information I can give you is that I've run across a few Pine gloves over the years while searching through glove auctions on eBay.

They seem to be another one of the many Japanese imported glove companies that came onto the scene around 1960, but have come and gone without leaving much in the way of any historical record.

Besides Pine, other import gloves from that era included Hurricane, Lucky, Hall-of-Fame, Home Run, AHI and TMC, to name but a few. The only imported gloves from that era that still thrive today must be Mizuno.

Sorry that's not much information, but that's all I've ever been able to come up with in all my years of glove collecting! With the main focus of the glove collecting hobby being the USA-made gloves, there is scant information on these small Japanese companies that fell by the wayside years ago.
