That was one of the first things that popped in my mind. It also could be a distributor accident. Maybe a truck full of stuff from a distributor had many things on it and there was a shipping mishap. Motor Oil, or some other type of nasty chemical. What did these gloves book out as, and how high a quality glove were they before they were soiled?
