Jensen G21 Personal Model - Spider Web

I recently bought a MacGregor Jackie Jensen G21 personal model glove featuring the "Spider Web". THis one had a decent patch and lining so I bit. I am a a sucker for these gloves and paid a princely sum of $28 for this one. The original pics are here...



I was looking forward to this glove, specifically the relacing of the web. It is a tricky one, but as usual, if you can follow the path of the old, it is relatively easy. A couple of things I wanted to mention...

1...buy lacing from Wood-N-Stuff- Laces on eBay. I bought 10 strands for just $15 and it is great leather. I requested a mix of brown and tan and they were more than happy to oblige.

2...I am finding that one of the best parts of relacing and reconditioning a glove is being able to reshape the glove a bit. I like the feel of this glove much more now than before.

3...I am a bit disappointed in the coloring of the fingers. They don't seem to match and appear to be very flat, but not in a flattering "patina way". I think I probably scrubbed too hard. Any suggestions on what I can do to add a little life to the glove.

I like this one, my big concern is the "dullness" of the leather so any help would be appreciated.

Glad to hear that you followed up on the Wood-N-Stuff eBay link I posted on your other glove restoration project thread!

I first came across this seller about four years ago. At the time, he was kind enough to send me a mixed sample of different color and size laces. Very good eBay seller- accomodating and easy to work with. And his prices are pretty darn good for the great laces he sells!

Not sure about the "dullness" you describe on your Jensen glove's finish. I see this sometimes, too. I assume that it is the result of the top layer of grain wearing from the leather due to use.

What leather conditioner did you use? Lanolin seems to result in the best finish on old gloves, but if the leather is worn smooth to begin with, that might be why the finish seems dull.
