The "good"--lining has no holes or rips; the red and black Rawlings patch is a little worn,
but fairly intact, sewn on the back of the mitt; the "Jim Bottomley" handwritten endorsement
is distinct, at top of face of palm.
The "not so good"--the "Rawlings" endorsement stamp (next to Bottomley's signature
at top of face of palm) is weak--seems like almost a "ghost" of original stamping.
I have cleaned glove with 2 applications of Horseman's One Step, to this point--have
removed a LOT of filth, cleaned up several "impressed" stampings ("GENUINE HORSEHIDE/
PAT. NOV.21,1922; Bottomley Endorsement Signature); but (to this point), the Rawlings
endorsement stamping seems to be "fading", rather than coming forward, with cleaning.
(I am guessing that this glove may have been "well oiled", during its active duty career,
but never cleaned; suffice to say, I've used as many soft cloth rags as I use on a similar
vintage glove, and the stain/grime "keeps coming up"!
Any guidance from you wiser glove hands, (as to how to proceed, and with what chemical
solution, if any), towards strengthening the Rawlings endorsement stamp, would be
very much appreciated!! PM me, or post; THANKS for reading!
