JC Higgins 1637

Hi, first post and all that jazz.

I don't know if I'm a collector or not, but I like gloves and have been enjoying the forum. Very informative. I'll be like everyone else and start off the relationship with a question. I generally never find gloves that are nice. In Mississippi they're all rough and need a little TLC, but this was a first and a nice surprise for me.

A JC Higgins 1637 Jackie Brandt model. All the stamping is there and perfect with a flawless patch. A little ink on the inside, but I like that anyway. I'm scared to touch it! The stiching is still yellow even.

I guess I'm just curious. It's a high quality glove and it reminds me of a Wilson. Did I read somewhere that Wilson made gloves for Sears? Also, if it's a 1637, what does the 28 mean?

Thanks to all that reply.

Hi this is a nice find and understand your plight about finding decent gloves. Few and far between in personal shopping and I hear this all the time.
I didn't see the model # 1637 on the glove, must have missed it. That is the usual number for Sears. Not sure of the additional # 28. Wilson did make this glove for Higgins as Brandt was an endorser for Wilson and this was a common practice to "loan" the full endorsement to the company allowed to sell the glove, in this case Sears. A couple of things I noticed that one doesn't see much is the "Made in the USA" at the bottom part of the lining on the back also a rarer illustration in the palm and the "X" lace hinge on the glove pocket break. An interesting glove!
Brandt's name was on several different glove models for Wilson. He was an up and coming star for the St. Louis Cardinals at one time who never quite materialized as a big star.

Oh! The 1637 is in the fold just below the player's foot. Sorry about that. Thanks for the information and the reply.
