I ran into the same problem. I entered a couple of telephone auction companies from Sports Collectors Digest I used back in the 90's before the internet auctions. One was Oregon Trails Sport Auctions and the other was Centerfield Collectibles. Legendary accepted them even though I think both are now defunct. Bing also mentioned calling Legendary and circumventing the online registration. He said talking to a real person got past all the BS. Legendary does seem to make it difficult but If you really like the glove, it is worth the effort.

I asked for more info and an additional pic on the previous 2 auctions and got no reply. It kept me from bidding as high as I would have. I've bought from Hunt's before and while I generally don't like the quality of their pics, they always answer my questions before the auction ends, including providing any additional pics.

I'd be interested to know how much Legendary spent on these catalogs. Seems like overkill. These things would cost 20 bucks if you were buying them at a bookstore wouldn't they?

If anybody gets a chance, have a look at the white KenWel sewn web on the Legendary site and compare it to the pics on JD's site. It's on the first KewWel page about 4 or 5 rows down. I would have assumed the Legendary pics are the most recent, but the color is so different it's amazing. It's so white on JD's site it looks almost bleached. On the Legendary auction it's more beige and fairly dirty in the pocket. Wonder what's up with that?

Call Legendary and talk to a live person if you need to register without references as well as if you need additional info or pics. Human nature makes it easier to ignore a written request rather than one that was acknowledged over the phone. They've always provided everything I've asked for through the years, including this auction. As far as registering without references, it shouldn't bean issue if you speak with someone. They want bidders and will work with you in order to get you bumping up prices. Sometimes they ask for names of friends in the hobby or a credit card to keep on file in case you don't pay. As for the Oregon Trail auction from many years ago, Ron Oser used to run that auction and he now works at Legendary.

Scott Jaimet ran Oregon Trails. He died a few years ago. Ron was based out of Philly and ran his own auctions until he was brought out by Mastro in 2000/01. Yes he is with Legendary now

Yup, you're right Murph. Ron Oser's auctions were different than Oregon Trail. Mastro/Legendary took over Oser's operations, didn't they also assume Oregon Trail too? Thought they did.

Yes they brought out Scott also and ran one maybe two auctions under the name Mastro's West. Scott's auctions in the 90's were some of the best ever. Great glove collections from the West Coast and always an honest transaction.

I purchased some really nice advertising display peices from Scott

Each hobby has its own set of rules about restoration. In cards it is a no no, glove boxes??? Art World all the time on million dollar paintings. As long as the auction details the work that has been done, it is up to the bidder to determine the true value

I emailed them after I got over my righteous indignation yesterday. They got back to me right away and said if I called they could get around the references BS. The whole references thing just seems like a cumbersome way to weed out the deadbeats. I registered with another auction house recently just to look at photographs from their past auctions (some good glove shots). All they asked for was my name, address, and email address.

I had a lot of great conversations with Scott Jaimet (jamay) in the late 90's. I bought my first Ruth glove from one of his Oregon Trail auctions in '98, the Reach full web. He was a good guy. I have all the Oregon Trail auction catalogs. I'll make it a project (one of many) to scan them in for you all to see. They were a glover's heaven.

Murph, you are absolutely right. Scott Jaimet was Oregon Trail. Mastro purchased the auction and called it Mastro-West.

Scott mentioned to me he learned to publish his own catalogs using color photos and saved quite a bit on the expenses. They were also high quality. Unfortunately, I only have a couple left. JD's posting of the glove pics from the catalogs would be a treat.
