An OK Mickey

Postby Bill247 » October 5th, 2011, 4:58 pm

I grew up in Jersey City and Mickey was always my favorite Yankee. Got to see him play at the real House that Ruth built and of course on WPIX; and I actually met him once. I therefore had to have this MM4. One of the few I've seen that fit the budget. It was wicked dirty at the start but came around nicely. As I'm sure a lot of y'all are aware, cleaning ofter results in broken laces and this one was no exception. Sooo, I learned how to completely relace a fifty year old glove. It still doesn't have a Spalding tag and the seam between the fingers is still ripped, so as I was watching the Yankee game last night I decided the best use for this Mickey is for catches with my favorite player in our yard. OOPS! The main reason in doesn't have a Spalding label is because it's a Rawling glove which y'all were too polite to point out and embarass me. Thanks

Nice clean up job on your glove! The leather they used back then was amazing. Talk about "built to last". :)

I grew up in Jersey City in the 1950s. Where did you live?

Good job on the glove. My cleaning projects never seem to come out well.
Probably because I rush it.

Guys, thanks for the compliments. Scott, in the small world department, we lived two blocks from Ilvento's Restaurant. Went to St. Anthony's high school (years before Coach Hurley put it on the map) and FDU in Rutherford. And you?

Bill, I lived in the Heights on Hudson Boulevard. Went to St. Nicholas School, then on to Marist High School in Bayonne. After that, School of Visual arts in NYC.
