Beane was the first to take more of a statistical look and effectiveness, in light of his scouts' reports. He was right about many things, wrong about a few more as time has proven. But the book goes far beyond that and the "sound bite" line from the book is after meeting with his scouts and discussing a particular player's abilities, the scout said something like, "too much body fat and wrong type body." Beane replied, "you mean like Babe Ruth?" Where are you Lance Berkman?
Pitt was a good choice for the B. B. character.
