Babe Ruth mitt... need some info, please.

Postby RiverJMAN » August 8th, 2011, 12:02 am

Well here it is. I have a Babe Ruth mitt I bought years ago and cannot find any info on it anywhere. I have found many similar, but all are Spalding. Mine is a Rawlings fielder's mitt. It has a stamped (I believe) Babe Ruth signature across the palm and "Rawlings" across the top of interior of mitt. If anyone could enlighten me on the vintage or what it would be worth, I would be very appreciative.

Thanks,
JMAN

Hello. Thanks for posting pictures. It looks to me that your 30s/40s 1B mitt may have been personally signed by Babe Ruth rather than the glove endorsed/factory stamped by the Babe. The good news is that it may be even worth if you would get the signature authenticated by a reputable authenticator (PSD/DNA?). I can't see the signature clearly so you may want to have someone who knows signatures give you their opinion before paying the money for authentication. There are a lot of fake Babe Ruth signatures out there. Good luck.

Thanks GloveCrazy. It had crossed my mind that it could possibly be autographed as I have not found any info on it, but if that is true, I figured it would probably be a forged signature. I haven't looked for a authenticator or handwriting specialist in northern Michigan, but I suppose I should. Thanks again for the feedback.

Before you put out any money, try to get a clearer picture of the signature and post it here. The guys here should be able to tell you if it is close. Rob
