Strangest Place to see a vintage glove

Postby vintagebrett » February 8th, 2011, 2:49 pm

We just got back from a nice trip to Florida, escaping the snow for week, and spent a majority of our time at Disney World. Not expecting or even looking for vintage gloves, I was pleasantly surprised to see a few vintage gloves around the park. In the Hollywood Studios Park (formerly MGM) there is a sporting goods storefront that has a couple gloves in the window. There was a 1950's Rawlings LH model - it looked to be one of the higher quality ones but the condition was too poor to see what model it was. There were a couple imports as well as a nice lace up basketball. In the Magic Kingdom, Mickey's garage has a beat up import 70's catchers mitt on the shelf. In addition, there is a restaurant, Casey's Corner, that has a turn of the century player carving standing outside the door - he is wearing a buckle back model. We didn't get to go into the establishment but perhaps there were more in there.

So, where is the strangest or most unexpected place you happened upon a vintage glove??

Were the gloves still in the caskets after you left? :D

A MINT Mickey Mantle MM9 Rawlings glove, lying on its stomach in a crystal punch bowl, in antique mall showcase. The hand that stirs. Yep, bought it cheap.

I was lucky enough to find a 1930"s Spldg Babe Ruth at an antique market in Japan.

Howerver, that seems very pedestrian compared to seeing them in caskets and a punch bowl!

Saw a glove at the Basketball Hall of Fame today - it was Michael Jordan's from his "break" from basketball.
