A real nice 1960's Wilson "Nelson Fox" personal model 2020 sold for $14 on ebay. Features the "Split Lock" web. One of the better gloves in the 1963 Wilson Catalog.

!950's MacGregor "Lou Berberet" model G176. Leather in beautiful condition. The finger stalls are not differentiated on the outside of the mitt. Great dark blue cloth patch. The markings in the pocket are strong. Sold for $22 on ebay

Fox, a pretty good price at $14+ for a Nelson Fox A2020 in fairly nice shape, wouldn't you say?
Two other Fox Personal Models (one an A2050) each sold for over $40 the same week. Another little mystery of Ebay.
At some point I'd like to discover when the term "Personal Model" was used on a retail glove and what the term actually implied for each glove maker.

Talk about odd photos and descriptions. I took a chance on these two from the same seller. These were both started at $6.99 and listed as children's gloves. The photos were very fuzzy; just clear enough to prompt me to bid. I thought the basemitt might be a Banner Gehrig; I knew that the fielders glove was an A2080 Pafko. I was the only bidder. I received them yesterday and they really responded to a little Horseman's One-Step. The basemitt's stamped Maycraft (no Gehrig signature that I can find). Still, a pretty nice mitt in great condition. The fielder's glove is a really nice example of the A2080 inside and out. All for under $25 shipping inclusive.

Mike, the Pafko is absolutely a great find! I love the external seams on that model. I owned a later version of the design in a "Pete Runnel's" model. Joe, your comment is interesting because as I was posting the early 50's Rawlings BD and MC model gloves from ebay, I was also curious why they changed to the "Personal Model" by the end of the 50's. You remember all the ads, "I use and endorse this model" by MLB players. Maybe it was some sort of marketing strategy to link a player to the glove and increase sales.

1960's Wilson "The Outsider" model 2815 for $15 on ebay. A unique looking mitt for sure. I owned one of these and it wasn't great to play catch with! Interesting idea however.

early 1900's full web crescent pad white leather glove sold for $530 on ebay. Looks to be in really good condition. the olive green cloth piping is all intact and the inner lining looks good.

1950's MacGregor "Ferris Fain" model G150 "Personal Model" in mint condition. Sold for $50 on ebay. Seems like a great price to me. leather piping, great cloth patch. One of the best mitts in the MacGregor catalog.

Interesting to see that white crescent change hands once again. I owned it for a while about five years ago. I liked it in many respects. My only problem with it was that it is very, very small. I'm guessing, because it's been a while. In my memory the glove is about 6 1/2" long x 5" wide. Forget about attaching the wrist strap.
On the plus side, it's a great looking glove. I just like to be able to put my gloves on and get a sense of what they were like to use.

Circa 1950 MacGregor Goldsmith glove. I think it may be one of the "Big Leaguer" models. Glove itself is in excellent condition, great cloth patch. Notice the interesting double lacing on the fingers. Sold for $43 on ebay

1960's Rawlings Heart of Hide catchers mitt model HOHX. A real sturdy mitt in beautiful condition. Sold for $61 on ebay. Manufacturers sometimes added the "X" after the model number to signify a Top of the line mitt made for professional use and not in the retail catalog. In the later 1960's, Rawlings incuded the model HOHX in their catalog a couple mitts under their top of the line model. Still some great features here in the intricate web, finger cinch lacing and the Latina laced wrist strap. Interesting that there is no break in the front. I wonder if someone out there could place its age more exactly? I am guessing the patch would indicate somewhere between 1959-1970.

Rawlings circa 1940 "Bill Doak" model H3 glove for $229 on ebay. I was tracking this auction to see how high it would go. Pretty spirited bidding for the rare 3 finger model in well used condition. The Doak patch is gone and the Rawlings patch is worn, otherwise it's all there. This one is going to take a lot of cleaning and reconditioning. I think this glove has got to be the "find" of the second week of Sept. Just a beauty for only $7. It takes some real diligence to search out a hidden treasure and real joy in the hunt.

This has been a pretty good month for collecting. Glad you like the Pafko. I'm pretty excited to have won this one as well (for $42 !) .
Here's an old Spalding 9-0 "Three-and-Out" Catcher's Mitt (from the teens). Just received it yesterday. This is what might be called a big tough near top-of-the-line catcher's mitt. I've been looking around for one of these for a couple of months now. The cloth label is mostly gone, other than that, it's just great.
