Can you help me identify this glove?

Postby edingc » September 19th, 2008, 12:05 am

Hello everyone-

I'm currently in the process of beginning a (light) restoration of my first baseball glove. Unfortunately, the glove has seen its better days and I do not know the brand or anything else about it.

I'm assuming that it was dark brown to begin with and I'm fairly certain that it dates from 1950-1970. I wish I knew more about it but it was my dad's glove when he was a kid and he has no clue anymore.

You can see the stitch marks from where the patch would have been on the strap, but the patch was gone before I got this glove well over 13 years ago.

Any help is appreciated. The glove is in the process of being restrung and heavily conditioned with lanolin as I know it hasn't seen any TLC in its lifetime.

Thanks!

i'm going to start the guess with a Rawlings but once you clean the palm area some, and the stampings become more visible, it be be much easier to tell from the model number that will (hopefully) become legible

Import Glove?

Postby softball66 » September 19th, 2008, 9:10 am

I'm guessing this is an import (offshore product) glove of the 1960s-70s.
I'm not sure cleaning will reveal much stamping. this glove is in pretty rough shape. Leather binding and not bad shell leather but restoration may not help this baby much.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I had a hunch that this was a cheapie from back in the day. I'm pretty positive that the stamping is gone or was never there because I can't see anything on the glove.

I am going to spend the time to relace and at least condition what's left of the glove because it does hold some sentimental value to me.
