Lots of Gloves up for Auction!

Postby Ironclad_Gloves » September 5th, 2008, 12:02 pm

Hey guys, I wanted to let you all know about a great opportunity! I don't know if you have heard but Ironclad Auctions has been retained by the Vincent Greco family to auction the many great Baltimore Orioles player game used gloves dating back to the 1960's through to the early 1980's. Vincent Greco worked for the Orioles as their videographer back then and ended up acquiring these game used gloves from such greats as Brooks Robinson (61-62 ), Boog Powell (68-71 ), Jim Palmer (68-69 ), Eddie Murray (77), Mark Belanger (70-71), Doug DeCinces (77-78 ), Bobby Grich (74-76 ), Mike Flanagan (83 ), Mike Cuellar (69-71), Al Bumbry (79-80 ), Davey Johnson (66-67 ), Rick Dempsey (76 ), Tippy Martinez (78-79 ), Dave Duncan , Rich Dauer (81-83 ), Dan Ford (81-82 ), Kiko Garcia (79-80 ), Eddie Watt (69 ), Andy Etchebarren (69-71 ), Ross Grimsley (77 ), Terry Crowley , Elrod Hendricks (70 ), Dave McNally (65-68 ), John Sefero (83 ), Clay Dalrymple(69-71 ), Juan Beniquez (83-86 ), George Staller (62 ) and Paul Blair (early 70's ).

They all are in great condition and were all authenticated by noted historian and game used glove authenticator, Denny Esken. Denny was taken back by the number of player gloves, the condition they were in and the caliber of players who gave these gloves to Greco. "The Vincent Greco game used glove find is one of the most amazing glove finds in recent history - said Denny Esken!

A few of the gloves such as the Brooks Robinson, Boog Powell, Davey Johnson gloves were just recently successfully auction by Ironclad. A second auction featuring a number of the remaining gloves will take place October 24 through to November 13th - Ironclad Legends II on www.ironcladauctions.com <http://www.ironcladauctions.com/> . You can preview many of the gloves today on-line and find out which ones will be up for auction by checking the Ironclad site periodically or sign up for the newsletter to get regular up-dates.

If anyone currently owns game used gloves they want to put up for auction ,on consignment, please don't hesitate to e-mail me at mpollak@ironcladauthentics.com or call me directly at (410) 823-8465.

Hi
Thanks for the post. We discussed your gloves briefly from the June auction - the Brooks Robinson did really well! One thing I was wondering, would you be able to post more pictures on your site for the next auction? It would be helpful to be able to see the front of the glove and model number. Thanks.

Ironclad, thanks for posting this. I would love to see, if you have it, a link to
your previous auction on the Orioles' gloves sold, to find out which players were using which gloves. Great information.
Thanks

hey guys just wanted to let you know that i was speaking to Max on the phone and told him about the site. I watch the last auctions and the glove all sold pretty well, i was suggesting the same thing you where bret about more pictures, model #'s etc. he said the greco family was selling all these items because there father had passed away, goes to show you when we pass on nothing can be taken with us, and our collection could be thrown to the wolves.

Lotsa Rawlings gloves

Postby softball66 » September 7th, 2008, 9:57 am

Found the link to this auction thanks to Tom Taylor (thanks). And wouldn't ya know there would be plenty of Rawlings gloves on these Orioles' gloves.
Here's the breakdown:
Brooks Robinson, Rawlings RSP '60-'62 (Store issue the Roy Sievers personal)
Jim Palmer, Spalding 42-204 '68-70 (Store issue the Rocky Colavitor personal)
Boog Powell, Rawlings DCT, 1b mitt '68-'70
Paul Blair (a Wilson endorser) Rawlings XFG1-H '70-'71 (loved this: Paul wrote "H E L P" across the back thumb (shades of "Catcher in the Rye")
Doug Decinces, Rawlings XPG3-H '70-71, a wingtipper
Bobby Grich, Rawlings XPGS, 1977-78
Dave Johnson, RSP Rawlings, mid 1960s
Mike Flanagan, Mizuno GPT-5 World Win (Flanagan was a Wilson endorser)
Al Bumbry, Rawlings XFG1-H 1979-80
Denny must have had fun going through these gloves. If a locker room guy was on the ball, he could get quite a few gloves when the old gloves were discarded.

link to first auction

Postby Ironclad_Gloves » September 8th, 2008, 5:18 pm

Hey, sorry for the long delay, below is a link to the first auction we had. I noticed in other topics you wanted more descriptions of the gloves. I am working on the descriptions now and more details for the gloves will be coming in the coming days.

http://auction.ironcladauthentics.com/c ... ity?id=818

when I was with Denny when he was authenticating the gloves he seemed to be having a lot of fun, and during the All-Star Game FanFest in NY he came over to our booth many times to look at the gloves.

Thanks,
