BEN Gloves....

Postby Armed_in_AZ » August 11th, 2008, 7:19 pm

Anyone know anything about these? I saw them in the Phoenix area in the late 80's early 90's... I remember really wanting one! I think they may have been a custom glove from Japan, but I am not sure about that. Any info would be appreciated.

I also so them in Spring training in the early 90's A few of the catchers were trying them. Looked like a good quality Japan mitt. Checked my old notes which said that a catcher named Walton was one. ( don't remember him) but year was 91

At least now I know I am not going crazy.... You are the first person who has even acknowledged their existence. Now just need to find someone who has one lying around!

i moved to mesa from torrance cal. in my jr year high school ,i do remember a gentlman going door to door with a sheet with glove pics and a price sheet , my brother and i purchased an 11-1/2 inf gloves ,about 2 weeks later he brings our new gloves over and were both surprised of the construction at the time , stiff non oil injected leather ,good construction - thread and details , the palm had no padding as i remember ,the pocket was terrific wide heel open design with a med-deep pockett , all fingers were reinforced to keep shape and still was a light glove overall ,i cannot remember the price or where it was made ,we both used those gloves for 2 yrs then unf sold them as i went to the army ,ben glove company still exists in japan but i have not seen high end examples ,usually kids or low line gloves , ours were terrific at the time ,just my exp with them !

Oh yeah! I remember going to Casey at the Bat at night when you could watch the movies at the Drive In while you were hitting! Trying to hit in the 85mph cage with Basic Instinct in the background was quite an adventure!
