Need Help with pre war gloves

Postby MTGLOVEGUY » August 12th, 2008, 1:47 pm

Hi all, I am looking to compile a list of known pre war makers or distributors (own Label) of vintage baseball gloves, mitts, equipment. Please let me know of any off brands if possible, for instance TruSport being made by Edward K. Tryon. any help appreciated. Also if any gloves are available for trade or purchase let me know. Thanks!

Source Book

The Vintage Baseball Glove Catalog Source Book has a list of all makers and distributors on its pages 3 and 4. With dates along side, all take from the Sporting Goods Dealer Magazine as original source. This would be a good start for you.

I have the past edition but not the current one so wasnt sure if anything may have been added to it or not. More then anything I was looking for any lesser know brands of gloves or ones say maybe made by Reach or something of the sort with a different patch. Not even sure if something like that happened but figured I'd ask. Thanks for your help and I do need to get a newer book.

Beej, there are literally hundreds of pre-war manufacturers or labels. They might have been made by a few different companies but virtually any business whether it be a hardware store, department store, auto parts store, shoe store, men's store, novelty store or sporting goods store would have their own label. When I found the list approaching 200, I switched over to 1" webs in off-brands only. That has been hard enough. I can't even imagine taking it another 20 years or so.

A centralized list would be great though. Let me know how I can help.
