a little arguement I had about custom gloves...

Anybody who says the glove makes no difference is probably somebody who can't make anything but a routine play anyway. If eveything takes a Sunday hop or is a can of corn fly ball then a glove is a glove. But go deep in the hole to backhand or run down a gapper snow cone job and then tell me the glove doesn't matter.

Hell I bought my son a GG series outfield glove to upgrade his Walmart special RBG36 Griffey model (the newer black ones that are way to flimsy) and there is a world of difference between those two. The GG are nice gloves but nowhere near the quality of the higher models or customs.

i agree w/both splinters and dapert. comparing an RBG to a pro anything is like apples and oranges.

when it gets down to comparing an HOH v. propref v. custom, it might not be as noticeable (assuming the non-customs fit you in the 1st place). the gamble when buying a broken in glove on ebay (site unseen) is that it fits someone elses hand (appropriately so)

as far as the prius v. M6 that would be quite a consumer reports mis-match

Exactly my point (About the cars) - They are two completely different monsters.

A HOH is made to last longer and for more high level play. Mid level store gloves are made for the recreational players. Sure if you are not going at it 5 days a week you can keep a $70 glove in great shape for years.

There's another element to this debate in that most of us on this forum are not only glove users but glove enthusiasts. That makes a big difference. We appreciate the differences in glove design, leather quality, construction quality, where's it made, the brand, the history of the brand, the history of the glove type, etc. So a baseball glove is much more than just a tool for us, it's a hobby, even, dare I say, an obsession. So we are willing to drop a lot more money on a baseball glove we like than a guy who just wants to catch a ball. Ask your friends what THEY are into and see if they buy the cheapest possible equipment, I don't think so.
