What are people looking for from Rawlings?

Postby Hrking4675 » July 13th, 2008, 9:41 pm

Just curious what people are looking for from Rawlings that you cannot get from any of their custom shops of stock model gloves.

Personally, I would like to see them drop the all black or burgandy for all the HOH's out there right now. I would like for Rawlings to start being more classic with their leather choice, like the Morton's, but it would be nice to see the HOH line with all tan and all black stock models of gloves like the PRO200 pattern with various webs and more PRO1000's or PRO 12's with different types of webs. It seems like Mizuno has been successful in doing this with their Pro line.
As for customs, it would be nice to see more materials/options to customize to justify their prices.

I would like to see an 11" Heart of the hide and Pro preferred with a solid one piece web.

Also I would like to see more single color gloves. Not as many two tones. Not even different color lace from the leather color

More single posts, less I webs

And this may be a stretch but I would love to see Rawlings evolve their thumb loop like wilson did on their A2k's and A2000 they're just so comfortable

I agree with the above...

It is kind of sad though, I think it is a generation gap type thing. I notice in alot of the pro games, most players use solid color gloves.

However, Rawlings makes most of its money off of younger players. And these guys (including my teammates in college) seem to want more flashy gloves. Notice how 90% of the custom gloves being ordered are ridiculous colors.

Last year I was trying to get a new OF gamer, and this year I am looking for a new 1b gamer. And none of the big three (except wilson, but Ive never been a fan) offer just straight all tan gloves.

I am actually going to have to get a custom HOH or a custom Mizuno just so that I can get an all tan glove.

It is very sad though, because the companies, financially have no incentive to change. Because even if everyone on this forum, with classic taste buys 5 gloves a year, if every young kid buys only one a year, they will still be a large majority of Rawlings customers. And right now, flashy gloves seem to be the name of the game.

In shorter view, Rawlings should offer models like A-Rods gamer, and the single post, double bar webs that most big league OF wear, and Rawlings would get at least one more customer if they offered the DCT in their custom program

Most people would rather have a player's model as opposed to a stock model that's just a bunch of letters and numbers. They already have PRODJ2 (Jeter) PROAP5 (Pujols) but they should have more like:

PROTORII (Torii Hunter's): People would much rather say "I have the Torii Hunter model than I have the PROSTB50, or PROS27TFB, or PROS601BG, or PROS601KB (all of which are 12.75" Pro Preferred Trapeze Models), but it's like Torii's."

A-Rod's PRORV23 w/ mesh back and hinged single post. It should also probably be changed to PROAR13 or PROAROD13.

Jose Reyes' glove because you can't buy a stock Pro Preferred 11.25 in all black with a Rawlings logo on the I-Web.

And why not make these with the players' names stitched on so they're the same thing? Just make some small difference if you don't want them being sold as game-used. Probably just do this for Reyes, A-Rod, Hunter, Jeter, Utley and big-name players.

Also add the dual hinge web, mesh backing and any other options that the pros have to the stock models and custom options.

I would like for Rawlings to keep the HOH line simple and classic, especially with the choice of leather. Forget the broken in and give me some stiff stuff! There needs to be greater differentiation between the different lines and they could do this by choosing a more classic and stiff leather. Also, I am not a big fan of the multicolor glove. Classic tan and black for the HOH. Leave the burgundy for Primo.

We just bought my 7 year-old's first good glove. (It's actually a present for his 8th birthday.) He spent a week at baseball camp at the University of Washington and began to realize that his Easton "kid's glove", as he calls it, just wasn't going to cut it when the throws and hits started getting harder, so he asked for a new glove. We looked at a lot of different options in the $75-100 range and he finally settled on a Rawlings GG1125. His only complaint is that it is black. He didn't want a black glove. He wanted the classic tan glove, but we couldn't find anything with tradtional aesthetics. He also liked the Wilson A1000 1788, but said that if he had to get a glove with black on it, it might as well be all black and not black and brown.

Why does Rawlings have to make their gloves two-toned or black or burgundy? Many of the tan GG's and PP's have black laces. Why not just make a couple traditonal models, so players who are purists have a some options?

It reminds me of Breaking Away when Mr. Stoller just want meat and potatoes...
I know I-tey food when I hear it! It's all them "eenie" foods... zucchini... and linguini... and fettuccine. I want some American food, dammit! I want French fries!

Since I am only playing softball at this stage, I would love to see some HOH gloves for softball. I know they had a line a few years ago, but I don't think they were marketed well and subsequently didn't sell. Very difficult to find, and they all had a velcro strap which didn't quite look right on a HOH.

I would love to see a 13 or 13.5 inch version of the PRO6XTC, with a wide pattern, or a full Trap with the wing-tip.
