Vintage Baseball Glove Forum

So over the last couple years, I've bought and sold 3 or 4 gloves on ebay. I've been dormant for a while, and a couple weeks back picked up a "New" Pro-30HFW to use for Softball. (The wife doesn't know about that one). The transaction goes smoothly via best offer, and after about a week the glove showed up stuffed in a 12x8x3 box. The glove was creased down the middle of the pocket because the seller had to fold it over to squeeze it in the box.

The seller knows the value of the gloves and audience looking to buy them. What really splinters my stick is that they charge $15 for shipping, then stuff a high end glove in a "Flat rate" sized box. The cost of the shipping doesn't bother me too much, but creasing the pocket of a glove to make $5 off shipping is HORRIBLE!

What is everyone's thoughts on glove shipping etiqutte?

I always ship gloveswith some packing material inside the pocket, and in a box that will not squeeze the glove.

We need to respect the gloves (and eachother) when we ship!!

BAH a 12x8x6 FR box will hold an infielders glove WTF are they thinking putting it in the thin box.

Besides, Boxes are free from USPS. You can even order them from the ebay site.

Heck at least you got a box, last glove I received came in the mylar envelope, at least they double wrapped it

I agree with you on the Shipping. I do not mind spending extra Money for the Fee, but I’d strongly dislike the Seller to cut corners, especially when the Product being Purchased is Compromised.

When Buying New Gloves the two things I am most particular about are the Fit on my Hand and the Smoothness in the Pocket. As far as that goes I am certain that I have OCD.

It reminds me of a true story once where an Uncle of mine was going to Buy and old Magazine, at a Flea Market, at a Price he thought was Fair. But then, before he could say anything the Woman took the Magazine and wrote the Price on the Cover in Sharpie.

In the end he did not Buy it and said at that point you could not have Paid him to take it. And that is how I myself feel on poorly Packaged Parcels that get Damaged when a little foresight could avoid the situation.

I got an email a little bit ago from another forum member about a glove I just bought (after he read this thread) and I thought I would share the humor:

i was wondering are you going to be mad at me if i smush the glove into a box and ship it to you?

I was on the phone and had to stifle the chuckle as I read the message

I just received my 12.75 Ox Blood Trapeze yesterday and it was flattened out in the box. Not to mention it took this person 10 days to ship it out. In the end there was no real harm in what she did but I was pretty PO'd.

After reading this thread I knew it was coming so I wasn't surprised by it. I love everything about the glove; the smell, the color, and how it closes without getting too tight on my hand. The only problem is I have to start going to the gym so I can get it above my head but I digress... I have a USA made Pro-T that is practically new so I'm going to the Post Office to see what the actual difference in weight is.
