Vintage Baseball Glove Forum

My last couple of "bargains" have left me scratching my head. Used to think I was a decent judge of the leather (or at least a lucky guesser), but I'm not so sure any more. I knew going in that the liner was trashed on this one, but the piping looked pretty good until it disintegrated while I was cleaning the glove. Surprisingly, the leather turned out to be nice and supple even with the chafing and surface cracking ('gatoring?) in the pocket. Really starting to like this glove, though, flaws and all. Wish that at least stamping for the model number had survived. I'll bet it was a beauty when it was new.

That turned out nice, did you redo the inner lining? Did you pick that up off of ebay? Just curious if it was one that recently sold, bc the inner lining was trashed

Yup, Jared that's the one. Congratulations on your Alex Taylor Walter Johnson! Bet that a lot of us were watching that one. Hope that you post pictures of it when it's all spiffed up. Ricky, the liner came from a 1950's JC Higgins. Guess I have to shy away from gloves with trashed liners now. No more donors!
