Vintage Baseball Glove Forum

Here's a few pix of the Tickey glove, as discussed in the other topic. Ebay seller listed it as Ed Jakey. It's a bit worn, but I'm hoping spruce it up a bit. Could be a Nokona.

Sure looks like a Nokona to me!

In the other thread ("Today I Found"), you mentioned a faint model number. Nokona issued a model number J515 Tickey-endorsed mitt in the early 1950's.

Also, compare the font of the word "Professional" with the Nokona base mitt picture posted by VintageBrett in the "For Sale" section. They are identical.

As deteriorated as the brand stamping is, it is still easy to visualize it as being the Nokona logo. Maybe you could do some kind of "CSI" photo overlay with a clear Nokona logo and count the matching points, like comparing a fingerprint!

I'll go out on a limb (okay, it's a short limb and it's not very high...) and say this is definitely a Nokona. I'm at least as sure about that as I would be with a DNA test- 99.9999%!

Last picture you can see the Nokona Logo (the profile view of the Indian with his headdress) just left of the center and that's undoubtedly the Nokona typeface underneath. And Yes, Tickey was not a sought after player endorsement. In fact, I can't even find Tickey playing in the Texas League
which is where a lot of the Nokona endorsers resided in the 1930s-40s.
So chalk this one up as Nokona. I'll see if I can find a catalog picture of it.

If you go to baseballreference.com and then the minors page you can find ed tickey....was in the NYG and then Brooklyn organization.

Thanks guys for your help on the Tickey mitt. I'm on the road. Just got into Orlando, FL tonight. Slim pickins in my North Carolina stopover. 15 antique stores and only 1 glove. A very weathered Reach buckle back catcher's mitt. Damaged on back but ultra cheap. A good wall hanger.
