checked out a few antique shops up in Penn today and actually came away with some good stuff. first up is a spalding 42-2451 Jim Northrup. it looks to be the rawlings-made XPG-3 counterpart. it is in vg condition and just needs a nice relace. also i picked up a 20's rawlings buckleback 1st base mitt which is beautiful. also needs a relace. i will post some pics later tonight if i can. today was a good day!

Nice - what kind of laces are those?

good question. Triple C #50 Cougar oil tanned alum 3/16. The very same used by the Lowman family (at least Fred). Just got my 1st lace order in yesterday. The folks at Triple C are super, had my lace to me in a matter of days. I think Fred has mentioned that they custom cut each order. I highly reccomend and will use them in the future.

First off, nice re-lace.

But I have a question, the last picture of this set shows the knot at the base of the web on the outside being very wide in tie. Is this a normal knot found on older gloves or is it a knot that some people use?

My knots are more like the one found on the thumb lace. Is there a correct version when these two are compared or it just preference?

Thank you for your answer in advance. :?:

I think they are both the same knot, but the wider one you are talking about at the base of the web is just showing the underside of it. They are both square knots so I dont really know. hope that helps :)

You very well might be right. I have been looking at some of the pictures on this site the last two days and have noticed that some knots to be different. It very well could be the angle of the knot or the way the camera focuses.

Thanks for the response. :D
