Hi, I wanted to start a topic about your guys' greatest finds yet. In the few months since I started collecting, mine has been a white Spalding full web for buy-it-now $24.99 on eBay. What is/are your greatest finds yet?

My best eBay find was a Spalding Hack Wilson buckle back that I got with another glove for $17. I've found numerous awesome gloves at flea markets and antique shows.

Greatest find yet, I hope not! Lets say greatest so far

Tough to say but for me I guess the best find I got was a lot of 5 items on ebay about a year ago. The description went something like this... Old lot of baseball items, very dirty and in need of some tlc. The lot consisted of a old 1 inch spalding white glove that was smaller in size, D&M catchers mask, a uniform from a high school, old dirty buckleback glove, and an old dirty catchers mitt. My interest in the lot was for the uniform and the one inch glove but when I cleaned up the other two gloves I revealed a J.C Higgins Mel Ott, and the Catchers glove was a Reach Home Run Special Babe Ruth( It's not in the best of shape but it is a Ruth). I had the winning bid for 84.51. Since this find however it's been all down hill for me!

Two of my best finds came last summer at the flea market on two separate weekends I found a crescent pad catchers mitt. And about a week later I found a webless workmans glove.I paid five bucks for the webless glove.I just started glove collecting so I have not had many great finds but these two are my best so far.

Cleaned it up and relaced it, then sold it for mucho dinero....$240.

A Ken Wel zipper back catcher's mitt with tag and all original lacing for $21. An early near mint 70s USA made A2000 XL model for $40 at PIAS.

My finds seem so rare, but what a thrill to find a keeper...

I know I've told this story before, but six years ago I was in an icecream shop with gloves on the wall for decorations. I asked the owner if he'd sell any. "Sure come in Monday" he said. He said take any you like for $45 each. I took the black 1" web Goldsmith Eddie Collins (NM), a Walter Johnson (can't remember the lesser known manufacturer but in Ex), Rawlings DS Duke Snider (NM), 50s high end Nellie Fox (NM), and a non-endorsed, but high end Rawlings trapper (NM). He wouldn't sell the Doak in the box however. Damn good icecream to!

spedrunr,

Was that a 1987 PRO H ? ( or 1997?).

i'm pretty sure it was a 1987 because it had the word sofTan'd super-imposed over the steer head in the lining. i have a 1984 proT with the same lining, which was my 1st HOH glove that i bought in 1985. is amazing leather, only conditioned it 1 time back in 1985 and it's still in great shape
