Vintage Baseball Glove Forum

hello,
since this is my first post, i would like to introduce myself. my name is Joel and i have am new to glove collecting. i have found this to be quite fascinating and enjoyable. anyway, i recently purchased a spalding basemitt on ebay which was adverised as a catchers mitt. after cleaning it, i noticed the name Ruth right above the word special. can anyone help me out and give me some info on this. i know Ruth was a pitcher and an outfielder, so this has me quite confused.

Looks like you've found yourself a Babe Ruth Home Run special basemen's mitt. Looks like Spalding made these Ruth Basemen's mitts from 1927-1932. Great find & welcome to the forum.
