Weekend Warrior: A pathetic individual, possibly a former competitive athlete, who after five days of limping around on painkillers and enduring hours of bone-chilling ice wraps, resists the urging of a nagging, but sensible wife or girlfriend to give it up, and foolishly decides to lace up his cleats or sneakers, availing himself for another opportunity at tearing, bruising, and potentially braking one more aged body part, all for the chance of capturing meaningless glory and earning local bragging rights.

My team plays on Thursday nights, so I guess I don't fit the definition of a weekend warrior!

Now wait a minute...

Weekend Warrior by definition, would appear to indicate that participation in weekend activities are a requirement. However, sports that take place week days, after daytime working hours, are the exception to the rule. So celebrate your "Weekend Warrior" status with gusto weekday player. Ice, elevate, limp around, and pop 800MG's of Motrin if you must, but whatever you do- pay no attention to your sensible wife or girlfriend! A simple "Yes Dear" accompanied by little or no eye contact, will insure that you get to game-day or night, unscathed.

The first couple of years of playing Sunday double-headers (MSBL) my wife would ask, "how did you do?" Then the last few years when I would get home my wife would simply ask, "so, what did you hurt this time?"

I knew I was going to get hurt and banged up, but I didn't complain too much since it was all part of the deal. I just knew if I was going to go out there and play hard that I was going to have to run the risk of getting hurt.

As for the Motrin...I have heard that works well, but my "cocktail" of choice consists of ice, ibuprofen, and alcohol, but not mixed of course!

Thanks for clearing up the confusion with what Motrin is.

I suppose now you are going to tell us what "ice" and "alcohol" are equal too?

If you spend enough time with either one they'll numb you up good! I know they were the Mick's choice for achey knees (as well as many other major leaguers)...
