Beckett Elite for Summer Has Glove Feature
Posted: June 27th, 2007, 4:20 pm"Beckett Elite Magazine" for this summer is just out and has one of our glove stories in there. Nice layout and pictures and not too bad copy by TGC. I think you guys will enjoy it. I plan on making a few photocopies for those interested. Others might want to pick up the magazine (Tiger Woods on the Cover).
What really stirs me is that on about page 11 is an ad for Historic Auctions with the "Only Stachel Paige Game Used Fielder's Glove in Existence" pictured on Historic's advertising page. I'd already seen the glove and certainly didn't think it's one of Satchel's gamers. It's a D&M Curt Simmons store glove with plastic piping made about 1955, two years after Satch hung 'em up with the Browns (he made a token appearance with Kansas City in 1963). It is signed by a number of Negro Leaguers but I don't think would have been wearing this glove. I don't think it would even fit his large hand.
