I think the Wilson model 900 may be the same as the J.C. Higgins model 1621 below. Wilson made the Higgins gloves in that era.

New models for the 1962 season.

Here's one not often seen. A 1926 Schmelzer Arms ad. They marketed a lot of Goldsmith equipment during that time. 1926 featured a great World Series against the Yankee dynasty. The Cardinals Grover Cleveland Alexander started 2 games and entered game 7 as a reliever. A lot like MadBum in the 2014 World Series. Alexander was a work horse even at 39 years old, spotting Bumgartner by 14 years.

Was theRawlings Big 8 a professional model and used by Major league players? What was the cost in 1964 and is this glove rare and what is it's value.

The Big 8 was more a mid priced model and not professional grade. I think originally in the $20 range versus $40 for HOH quality. The glove is a popular collectible especially with the picture box. I have tried to buy the glove only on ebay and the price seems to be $75-$120 for a nice example. It's a cool looking glove with the X-web. It can be hard to find but shows up occasionally on ebay.

Another rare model is this Nokona glove from 1951. The two piece face harkens back to the early days when inventors were experimenting with creating deeper pockets for gloves and mitts. Nokona made the standard issue laced pre-formed pocket gloves and this two piece face "Bob Lemon" G54 model was touted as having the deepest pocket of them all. The seam across the pocket was also used to keep the heel padding secure. The "Bob Lemon" G54 and "Don Hoak" G53 models were made for 5-6 years in the early 50's. I don't recall any models surfacing yet with that particular feature.

I noticed a Ken-Wel Lou Gehrig advertising tin at one of the Applebee's restaurants and it may be a reproduction I'm not sure but they are getting ready to remodel and I was wondering what I should ask for a fair price. I have seen reproduction ones for around 18.00 but some have bids starting around 100.00.

They are all reproductions - some are done up better than others. $10-$20 is what you should pay as they are quite numerous and easy to get ahold of.

here are a couple of obscure early ads. A.M. Piper was a toy, novelty and sporting goods mail order catalog store at the turn of the century out of Des Moines. The first ad is circa 1905 and features "Victor" equipment. This isn't the Victor Sporting Goods out of Springfield but the Fancy Goods retailer based in Toronto who appropriated the Victor trademark for a while until a trademark infringement lawsuit stopped that.


The second ad is A.M. Piper a couple years later and featured Splading equipment.
