Hello...been thinking about this for a while and i'm sure this subject has been brought up before...and if so I apologize. How important is it to you all to have a correct hand model of an endorsed Store Model glove? Does it play an important role in your decision for purchasing? If it's a rare glove is it still important enough for you to wait until you find a correct hand glove? Honestly for me it means very little to have a correct hand glove especially if it's a rare glove. On a very rare glove I'd imagine it's possible there might be only one or two incorrect hand gloves out there and I'd think it would be even more rare! I guess I don't understand the importance of having a correct hand glove but wanted to hear others thoughts on the subject and maybe i'll change my mind!

I am personally right-handed and prefer a right-handed glove regardless of the endorsement. I just don't find a left- handed glove pleasing to wear or look at. I'll only buy a lefty if it's something so rare or nice that I'm not likely to find a righty that comes close to it.

That makes sense...I'm a lefty though and if I only collected lefty gloves i'd probably have a collection of mostly incorrect hand gloves I imagine there a lot of others that are the same way and prefer righty gloves.

I'm with larjoranj: I don't care if the player's nickname was Lefty, I still want the glove to fit my correct hand (RHT).

I'm left handed, so finding a left handed glove is always a bonus. But I don't wear them, I display them. So it doesn't matter to me at all. I have more righties than lefties in my collection, but that's because righties are more common. Whether the endorsing player was righty or lefty isn't important. Condition is king.

Good question on the lefty vs. righty gloves. Being about 1 out of 10 people are left handed would make one think the glove makers made very few gloves for leftys from a production standpoint. I suppose there could have been larger production runs for gloves that were endorsed by a Lefty, such as Musial or Ruth. But, I believe the left handed thrower who wears the glove on the right hand is likely a rarer glove from a production point of view. Endorsed models like a Stan Musial glove apparently draws a higher value. according to Joe Phillips price guide, if it is the correct glove for the endorsed player (Musial was a left hand thrower and thus wore his glove on the right hand and this would draw the premium value), but as some of you mention some folks just want the glove and offer less importance to it being right handed vs. left handed. I find that several folks really want the glove that feels correct on their hand.

I personally throw right handed and wearing the glove on the left hand is much more comfortable to me. Most of my gloves in collection are for my left hand so I can still throw with my right hand.

I do find it interesting to own a few lefty gloves as it offers just a little diversity to the collection and reminds me that people are not all the same when it comes to handedness. Good topic.

I am a right handed thrower and much prefer to find gloves that fit on my left hand since it feels most comfortable. I do have some LH thrower models in my collection - they make nice matches to the RH counterpart and also have one or two with local labels I've not seen on another glove. I don't collect endorsed gloves, but if I did, I think I'd want the dexterity to match that of the player.

Good topic. I’m a righty so I prefer to get most of my gloves as rightys, not leftys for the typical reason that they feel better or more natural on my left hand as seems to be the consensus. However, when it comes to endorsements, all bets are off. I go out of my way to find them for the correct hand. With Ruth gloves, I prefer them as leftys. The same goes for Lefty Grove or Lefty O’Doul. I don’t want a left-handed Mantle or DiMaggio glove either. I don’t typically collect endorsed gloves with the exception of a few big names but when I get them, I want them correct.

For the record, it’s easier for rightys to err on the side of rightys but not as easy for leftys in my opinion. In other words, who is going to turn down a right-handed Ruth? It’s not the same for left-handed DiMaggios because most people are right-handed so therefore wrong-handed leftys aren’t quite as desirable as wrong handed rightys for the reason that Dave eluded to in that only one in 10 of us is a lefty so the pool is smaller (1 in 12 gloves made lefty according to glove manufacturers).

When it comes to super rare models, I take whatever I can get, righty or lefty. If I first get the model as a lefty then I’ll spend the rest of my time trying to find a righty, which oftentimes will never happen if the model is truly rare. In that case, there’s nothing wrong with a lefty.

There's no right or wrong answer. Collect what you like. Just my two cents.

Totally agree with JD. I like bookends too. Matching pairs make great displays.
