Do you ever think about the one that got away? Mine is a Fred Toney glove on eBay several years ago. It was written up in the newsletter. I believe a Cubs fan was the high bidder. I'm curious if he is a member and he still has it.

Aah Yes

I remember the rare-rare-rare Fred Toney glove. Fred was the winner in the famous Toney v. Hippo Jim Vaughan double no-hit game, Reds v Cubs.
I think another lad one might remember, Jimmy Thorpe, scored the run that won the game. On occasion one of those 1915-1920 glove names shows up and these seem so scarce.
I wonder who is the earliest dated player to have a stamped glove found? Any suggestions here? :?:

I don't remember who won, but I do remember that I lost. It was rather painful seeing it in a future newsletter. Thanks for reminding me

Another painfull loss was a D&M Duffy Lewis. They might have ended around the same time.

I know what you mean. I think my son may have been high bidder on the Lewis.

man oh manachevitz, the gloves we've missed out on: Toney, Lewis, Chase.
I've got a Hans Lobert glove and that's got to be an early guy if not an early, early glove. Came up with Pittsburgh in 1903. :

Sometimes you win some too. I turned my frustration into a purchase after losing out on the Toney and the Lewis. I picked up a dirty full web a few days later. Cleaned up well. Turned out to be a Goldsmith XL with a Carl W. Mays endorsement. He was a key member of the 1918 pitching staff for the Red Sox, won two games in the series. He and the Babe combined for the four wins.

Lobert & Carl Mays. Both played for the Giants and are on my wish list. There was a Carl Mays 3 finger on eBay awhile back. Would you guys post some photos of the Lobert & Mays. It may be as close as I ever get.

Here is a Goldsmith Carl Mays 3 finger. The endorsement is clear but is in the fold. I'm looking to upgrade to a better Goldsmith 3 (hint Josh) as I collect brands, not endorsements. If you want it, it's yours if I upgrade to a better one.
