IMO it is absolutely insane what people are paying for 70s and later gloves. When you consider the "vintage" equipment and memorabilia available for similar prices, it boggles the mind.

I saw that one earlier today.

With that Buy-it-Now price the seller is obviously "fishing" for that one sucker...errr...motivated buyer...with a few extra bucks to burn. I would bet that the reserve price is quite a bit less than the BIN price. That price is THREE TO FOUR times the book value!

Similar gloves can be had for much, much less.

One other observation. I hope that glove "grading" never becomes as insanely picky as what you see in cards, coins or comic books. But I also wish that sellers would at least familiarize themselves with the common grades used in the glove collecting hobby.

Mint condition? Not by the standards described in the Vintage Glove Price Guide. While clean- and most likely cleaned!- this glove is not "stone cold new, never played with". A mint glove should look essentially like a newly purchased glove, with some small blemishes allowed for storage.

And can a relaced glove ever be considered as "like new, just as bought from the store"?

This one is somewhere between excellent and near mint, probably closer to NM. On average, near mint prices are only half the mint price.

Nice glove? Yes! $650 nice? No way!

3X is pretty accurate.

I always get a kick out of reading "better than new"

wonder how she jammed those (1/4") laces into the holes? i have trouble pulling 3/16" laces.

love the "once in a lifetime auction"

(once in a lifetime you make the mistake of hitting the BIN button at that price for that grade, 8/10, of a glove)

:?
