I'm not sure if this has been a previous topic discussion, but i was wondering if the market prefers left handed or right handed vintage gloves?
Is it a matter of personal taste or is there more or less demand because of usage or scarcity?

In an apples to apples comparison, the RHT will almost always beat out the LHT in bid activity and price. A notable exception would be if the glove is endorsed and the player used a LHT glove. A Ruth or a Lefty Grove is always nice to have, but the LHT versions of both are more desirable.

Another exception would be early catcher's mitts. The LHT versions are pretty hot right now.

Great topic William. I agree with what you said. I prefer right handed gloves (fit on the left hand) 95% of the time because they simply feel better and more natural for me because I'm right handed. When it comes to prominent left handers like Ruth, Grove or Spahn, I would most definitely rather have a lefty. In fact, I go bigger if those models are left handed. Now, if a tough or difficult model is only available in a lefty I will pick it up every time and then spend, which seems like, many years to find the righty but I will never turn down a super rare glove if it is only available in a left-handed model.

In other words, I don't believe a lefty should ever be turned down simply because it's a lefty, but I do prefer righties in general. I would hope lefties would say the same thing about lefties.

I don't discriminate either way. I'm left-handed, so naturally those gloves feel better on my hand. I'm not as tuned into the lefty-righty thing as are some of the more experienced collectors. I'm just happy when I can snag a glove in my price range. If it happens to be a lefty, then that's a bonus.

I'll take the one that fits on the left hand every time, even for the big name lefties, even for people named Lefty. I acknowlege that some put a premium for the lefty versions for prominent lefties and I'll be happy to charge them that premium, and then use the money to buy the righty version. For some reason I do like an occasional lefty catchers mitt, though, because they are just so wrong.

I'm with glovecrazy on this one - I'm right-handed and enjoy putting the gloves on and putting it on left handed glove feels very unnatural to me.

I have 13 left hand throwers out of 85 gloves in my meager collection. 13 is an unlucky number. I better pick up another lefty quick!

I was also kind of wondering about supply and demand for R&L handed gloves. One would think there would be more left handed gloves available, because from my experience there is more left handed catchers out there(considering the direction of play on a diamond makes it easier in more positions to be a lefthanded catcher throwing right). With that being said you would think supply for right handed gloves would be less making those gloves scarcer(with exception being a first baseman's mitt).
Does anyone know of any famous right handed catching catchers?

Being right handed, I usually don't give the left handed gloves much more than a cursory glance. That said, I have bought a couple scarce lefties just because I couldn't find a righty version after a few years of searching. Why couldn't I have been born ambidextrous?!
