http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0350281364The original is 20 x 30.
This is not the painting that the litho was made from but a nice job.
What is it worth?

I saw that and knew I had seen it somewhere before. My question is, did someone copy this from the litho or what? I know nothing about art and wouldn't be bidding anyway but it would be nice to know the history.

The is rather crude the original litho has a lot more detail. Corey Lieby had one and mastro sold one for a bundle in 2001

My guess is that it's a modern painting on old canvas. The details are far too loose for it to be a study, in my opinion. The faces and the lettering are not tight enough to sell it as a preliminary sketch, which is what it would have most likely been used for at that size. Still, it's a cool painting, and even though it's "off", it's still a piece that takes skill to execute. I wouldn't be surprised if there were multiple bidders at the end. George Sosnak paintings are horribly executed, but they have enormous appeal.

The colors look fresh to me, not 90 years old with built up patina from varnish, dirt and dust.

Definitely alien! I actually owned one like your picture. It was a Wilson glove marked softball with the same weird crescent flaps. it had the reinforced fingertip tips also. There were some patents for the style shown. I will see if I can dig them up.
This is my alien encounter, a Wilson "Snare-Em" model. Mine is more of a mitt style
