1900's folk art catchers mitt

got to love the little strip of leather added on the top of the face. oops! the mitt in general has the external seam look much the way a shoe is put together so maybe a cobbler made someone a mitt.
the homemade wrist strap is in the shape of an arrow head, like Stall and Dean. The whole hand area is hand-sewn onto the black leather back and it is quite funky. I think the two rows of holes at the heel are meant to be used later if the mitt was sliced open to add more stuffing and laced closed again. The perimeter leather band is not one piece but in segments, as you can see a gap to the right side of the mitt. these segments were hand sewn together to make the perimeter stronger. I can see marks of the thread indentations, so they lasted a little while
