Vintage Baseball Glove Forum

I just came across this site a few days ago and it's good to see that my hobby has others this involved.

I live in San Antonio, Texas and work at a sporting goods store that specializes in baseball and softball.

I've been re-lacing gloves for about 2 years now (and I enjoy it!).

I'm still learning and have a way to go before I can say I am a pro (but I'm getting there).

You guys have great information and I hope to contribute. Let me know if you have any questions about me or my re-lacing experience.

Welcome aboard Texas, glad you're here! We are all baseball glove enthusiasts of one fashion or another. It gets to be an obsession after a while. Glad to see another glove lover on the board.

We'll see where this goes. I got into re-lacing by accident and now am looking to see where I can take my skill level.

I am working with a local glove maker and might have his knowledge available to get into taking gloves apart for repair and restoration.

That's still a work in progress.

I got into this about 4 years ago now. I was shopping around for gloves for my two grandsons (age 6 and 4). I was shocked at the prices and appalled by some of the quality. What they really needed were decent quality gloves that were fairly broken in. So, I went where everyone goes, eBay. I bought a couple and fixed them up, and they didn't come out too bad, I surprised myself. So, I bought a couple of more. I downloaded a manual from the internet on how to fix gloves, and of course, I bought some more gloves. Fixed up two or three and sold them on eBay, and I've been at it ever since. Still refining the process and working to develop just the right materials and ingredients to get the very best result. It's a work in progress. I really enjoy giving new life to old gloves. It's my way of giving back to the game that I love. You'll find that the members on this board are extremely nice people and very, very helpful. All you have to do is ask. We all started out in pretty much the same place so, if we can help you to avoid some of the usual mistakes, just post your questions and everyone will offer their input. My re-lacing has developed to a stage that I feel comfortable with 85% of the gloves presented to me. But I still have plenty to learn I'm sure.

I now want to get into reconditioning the leather and maybe doing small leather repairs (thumb and pinky loops).

I get my stuff from Tanner's and use a glove lacing needle for all my work. I found this old wire cutter that I trim leather with...maybe this Christmas I'll put together a nice tool pouch for my re-lacing work.

I'm just looking to get some information about re-lacing and reconditioning. It seems like most of the people on here know much more than me on these subjects...so I'm not sure what knowledge I can provide.
