Not much about Pony League, Maybe some stories about JV BASEBALL....
March 1959 JV Baseball practice begins; outside was cold and damp. Exercises and the basics; bunting; runing bases infield and outfield, batting practice etc. Rain days shared the gym and halls ways with the varsity..1st game usually around April 1st still weather was cold and damp. Had good season played 3rd base and pitched a few games. Still used my 3 finger PMM rawlings..

I quit the band to go out for baseball my soph year in high school. Didn't have a prayer, I thought, of making the team (2 years Little League exp.). Monty Stratton Senior came out to help the coach and pitch batting practice for us.
Sad, sad note. Monty Stratton Jr., a junior, who had played the year before, didn't make the team. I was sitting at my locker after practice one day and he came in and laid his uniform on my lap and said simply, "I won't be needing these anymore. Good luck." I had made the team but felt bad for Monty Jr. as he knew he'd let his dad down.
Monty Senior never came out to a practice or a game after that.
I did play semi-pro baseball later with the younger brother, Dennis, after that.

After not playing baseball and really having no interest in 8th grade, I decided that I wanted to play again. 8th grade I was really into golf and bmx biking. Since the C team tryouts werent for a while, the AD at my highschool suggested that i go to jv tryouts. Turned out that my fielding skills were still sharp, and i made the team. That year i did things like steal when there was no sign given, get picked off third, and drop balls in left field. I really wasn't loving the game. I didn't play summer ball. next year a lot of the guys i played with made varsity but i didnt. sophomore year i played jv for a terrible coach. After sophomore year i played ball, and really fell in love with the game.
