The picture pocket

Back in my early years of collecting I was drawn to the unique little players inside the pocket of old gloves mainly from the 50'-60's. Later I found out they were referred to by collectors as picture pocket gloves. These gloves, although sometimes smaller and of inferior leathers, grabbed my attention and I had to buy every different version/pose that I came across. On these gloves most of the players inside are: Batting, catching, fielding, or pitching. I remember owning a Rawlings Wally Post that had a batter inside and Rob Mucha had a Whitey Ford Stall & Dean that had a little pitcher inside in the "set position" (I think)

Here are my questions:

What is the oldest glove to have picture pocket?

(I know the Alex Taylor logo has a fielder and the Stall & Dean Speed models have the little pitcher, but they're on the heel not much of a picture pocket)

What are the different variations that you've all seen?

Do particular pocket go with certain players or was it mixed from year to year?
(For example: Does anyone have a Ted Williams fielder pocket and batter pocket)

And lastly, Post some pictures of your favorite picture pockets....I'll do my favorites later tonight. Take care..............RBD

I've got a D&M Walter Johnsom G40 with a picture of a pitcher in the pocket, or to be real specific, slightly lower than the pocket & also a Stall & Dean GC Alexander with the picture on the heel.
Just can't get good photos though....to much flash.

Thanks Joel,

The top fielder is from a Wilson Pete Runnels glove.

The Bulldog one is from the Nokona catcher mitt. The dog is actually on the heel of the mitt w/the state of Texas inside the palm. Probably the best picture, but just my opinion. :)

The last 2 come from JC Higgins Corktone gloves. One a basemitt and the other a fielder's glove.......................RBD

My fave picture pockets are the catchers mitts. That half crouch proves the split finger hadn't been perfected yet :)

Hi here is a nice fielding picture in the pocket of a Wilson A2171 Ted Williams as well as a Rawlings 1920s model AP Cy Perkins with an Alex Taylor tag. I love these little figures. Hope the pictures work.

Missed this cool topic the first go around. Hope you can see the little players on each side of the logo on this Dazzy Vance (the flash kept whiting them out). Just picked it up from JD.
