Did anybody see This Week in Baseball on Saturday? They gave Goose his private tour to the Hall and showed him the old gloves in the back room. He got to hold a huge old catchers mitt. They showed Gehrig's basemitt and a number of other gloves and mitts. It was pretty cool to see all the gloves out there.
I record it every Saturday. It brings back fond memories of my youth. I used to wake up early every Saturday morning and watch it. The music still gives me the chills. It used to be the ringtone on my old cell phone.

It was a great piece... glad to see you watching Yankee programming, Jim! Did your trip to the Stadium convert you?!?!?! I could only imagine the leather in the Hall's basement. That being said, what percentage are truly gamers? We've seen so many instances over the years where HoFers sold (Jenkins), gave to friends (DiMaggio), etc. gloves which turned out not to be what they were supposed to be. Perhaps some gloves donated/acquired by the Hall fall into this questionalble category. I'm not a game used guy, so it doesn't bother me at all, but it sure would be nice to rummage through those vaults to see what turns up!
Brett, now that the inductions are complete, perhaps you can contact the Hall to see if they'll let some of us visit to see their gloves?
How about that

Yes indeed it was a great piece. I missed last weeks show and i was afraid it was the HOF edition that i missed. It does bring back fond memories watching TWIB. Thankfully there is more expanded NL coverage so I don't have to sit through that other brand of baseball that is usually broadcast after TWIB.

I'm with you drzubia8. I'm a National League guy to the core. They play real ball in the NL. Jerry, I might have been converted if I didn't have to pay $60 to park at Yankee Stadium. It sure was cool to be there though. I'm glad I got to check Yankee Stadium and Shea Stadium off the list. My son and I really liked PNC park too. Still have about eight or nine parks to see to complete the list.
Brett, didn't we see a Cobb gamer and Rube Waddell Gamer on the traveling HOF display at FanFest? I'm not much into gamers either but I sure love looking at old gloves.

Yes, there was a Waddell and Cobb gamer in the traveling exhibition. The Waddell was almost like a leather winter glove - it was very primitive.
It would be great to see all of the gloves in the basement at the Hall of Fame. I don't think I have any pull - softball66 knows someone there, maybe he could get us in.
I didn't know TWIB was still on until my brother told me The Baseball Project had a little segment on a couple weeks ago - I'll have to start recording it.

I actually missed it. Wished I could have seen it. JD, I too, love the TWIB soundtrack. This thread brought to mind another show I used to watch. Did anyone watch the 80's show the BASEBALL BUNCH? I believed it starred Johnny Bench and the San Diego chicken.
Oh yeah

Johnny Bench teaching the fundamentals of baseball. Too bad there aren't any shows like that anymore.

Wasn't Tommy Lasorda a wizard or something on the Baseball Bunch? I remember wanting my little league games to begin in the afternoon so I could watch that show before heading out! It pumped me up and got me "game ready"... hahahahahaha!

this takes awhile to load but it's a pretty funny rendition of the pine tar incident.
