Vintage Baseball Glove Forum

I have a few gloves that are a bit older that people ask me how old they are, what they’re worth, etc., and I have absolutely no idea.

The catchers mitt is a Rawlings Walker Cooper with 3 patent numbers on the outside of the pinky: 2434170, 2434171, and 2459887.

Next is the Franklin F117. “Little League Model” .

The third belonged to my father-in-law, and is a Peanuts Lowery model. I cannot make out what is in the palm. It looks like J.Cr… with a 150. Model 1675. Peanuts Lowery played in the 40’s and 50’s with the Cubs, Reds, Cardinals, and Phillies.

The last is the tiny one. Nothing readable on the glove; this was my father-in-law’s as a young child, before he got the Peanuts Lowery glove. My father-in-law is 72. That’s all I know.

The Rawlings Walker Cooper catchers mitt was top of the line for a while - I don't have my source catalog with me but I know it was popular in the 1940's and even into the early 1950's if I'm not mistaken. Yours looks like it is in really good shape - value probably between $50 to $75, maybe a little more based on condition and quality

The Peanuts Lowery is a J.C. Higgins model - I've seen quite a few these. If I remember correctly, probably a mid to low line glove. Pretty common as well, and, with yours, someone did their own glove enhancing and turned a split finger glove into a laced finger. Probably not much value to this one.

The Franklin Little League model is probably from the 50's and doesn't have much value at all. To other little one is a kids model probably from the late 1930's - this one should haven't the laces through the fingers either. Not much value as well.

Thanks for the input. I have never really been into collecting, as evidenced by my ignorance. I just do relacing for people around here. But I must admit, this forum has got me very interested in the collecting side as well.

I suspected as much with the father-in-law-gloves, as they are pretty beat up inside, and the lacing issues you mentioned- Sentimental value to my wife though, which is more important.

The only glove on there I paid for was the Walker Copper- $2 bucks at a thrift store. Again, thanks for the help, and I will try not to drive everyone crazy on the forum, as I get more into collecting, and ask dumb questions.

That Walker Cooper was a steal for $2. And of course, the only question you don't ask is a dumb one. I would encourage you, when you have some free time, to search around the archives a bit - you'll find lots of interesting tidbits about vintage gloves that will make you want to collect even more.
