Ricky and I recently made a trade and one of the items he sent was a Skeeter Kell glove(still has alot of silver and in great shape). So I looked Sketter up for his stats and saw on the website that he was still alive. I thought humm... So I looked him up, found his number and gave him a call. For some reason I was still shocked when he answered the phone, even though I called him!! We actually talked for a few minutes and in the conversation I asked him if he would like his own glove for a keepsake, donated of course. He tells me that he's seen that glove and not intrested in it at all, saying "That's nothing like what we used to play with. We all used Rawlings." Me reading between the lines took that to mean you can keep your mid grade glove, I have much better, but in a polite way. Then he says "You know, I have a glove that George played with and he gave me." For those of you who don't know, his brother is George Kell, a H.O.F.er. After he said that I lost my mind a little thinking of game used H.O.F. leather from the 50's. At the end I asked if I could send the glove to be signed and he said sure, calling me Sir the whole conversation, which was amusing to me, the 30 something. He gave me his address and said send it down. I thought it was great that he would talk and offer to sign, so I thought I would post!!! The question that I have been knocking around is to actually send the glove or not to be signed?? Tell me your thoughts!!

Yes, yes, yes! How many chances do you think any one of us would ever get to have a vintage glove signed by that player from that era? This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, don't even think about passing it up.

VBR, br

for sure

Send the glove by all means. It'll be a treasure.
years ago when George Kell was signing in Dallas, one of my friends showed him one of Skeeter's store glove. "By golly, I didn't know old Skeeter had a glove," George evoked. I think Skeeter ran a sporting goods store in Arkansas for awhile.

He did have a sportings goods store, actually 2 in Missouri, where I am at. Thats how I found him so easily when I searched him. He since sold the stores and lives in Arkansas but the store still runs in his name. The owner knows him I guess and gave me info to call!!! I'll send the glove on Monday, Thanks...

That is a neat story. You'll have to post some pictures when the glove comes back. Thanks for sharing.
