Danny Litwhiler set a record by fielding 1.000 in 1942. Page 9 of his biography http://books.google.com/books?id=vNt20J ... qnDY&hl=en has the story of how he got his "gamer" in a trade with Kirby Higby. Reading through the book it appears that Danny may have been the Brooks Robinson of his era in terms of finding the right glove.
