Vintage Baseball Glove Forum

As we near the end of the school year I am doing a major weeding of the books in my library. Today I was going through the baseball books and, because I'm easily distracted with glove pictures, I found these to share with everybody.

A while back we had discussed players using the Lutzke style three finger glove. Here is a picture of Charlie Root with one! This picture comes from the book "Baseball Players Do Amazing Things" by Mel Cebulash (1973)



Next neat picture is from Baseball by Dick Siebert and Otto Vogel (Athletic Institute Series - 1965). The player in the pictures is using a MacGregor Snare two finger model. In my opinion, this is one of the neatest glove designs and found it cool to see it in action. Haven't seen one of these for a while on eBay = they were selling hot and heavy for a couple months.



And finally, I've mentioned this book before but wanted to share two special pages with you. The book is called "Bat, Ball, Glove - The Making of Major League Baseball Gear" by William Jaspersohn (1989). You can buy it at Amazon for 39 cents

Anyway, it describes the process of how Rawlings makes their gloves featuring none other than docglove himself. I'm sure he enjoys reliving this!

You people have been warned not to post pictures of Doc Cleve.
He's holds a doctorate of gloves and you know what Doctors have? Right, a PRACTICE. And Bob just practices there at Rawlings.
I'll have to admit, he does a fairly good job at re-lacing. Which is better than moi. Guy called me one time and asked if i made some of the gloves I sold. I told him i could not even tie my shoes.
Doc needs to wear a jeweler's piece when he's looking at the glove patterns.
